The Samsung Galaxy S4 is not just a powerful Android device but it also packed with many cool features that you won’t find on other mobile phones. However, many of the features are hidden deep in the menus and settings that even experienced users may not be aware of. In this post, I will be showing you numerous hidden features within Samsung Galaxy S4 which can help you get more out of your device.
These Samsung Galaxy S4 hidden features are available on all versions of the device, though there may be some small differences in functionality.
Swipe contacts to call or text
When you’re in your Contacts, instead of tapping a contact and selecting the action to perform from their contact profile, you can simply swipe left or right to call or text them instantly.
Launch Google Now Fast
Google Now is an intelligent personal assistant developed by Google that is available on all Android device running Android Jelly Bean 4.1 or higher. It lets you search with Google Now and ask the phone to do things such as check the weather, traffic and news for your area. To launch Google Now quickly, hold the menu button on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and it should pop up.
Customize lock screen
The default Samsung Galaxy S4 Lock screen has a large ‘Life companion’ slogan with the time and date displayed below. If you’re a little tired of seeing this slogan every time you want to use your smartphone, you can change the text, font, and color, remove the clock and date if you want, or get rid of the widget altogether.
If you are using a secure lock screen such as a pattern or PIN lock, you can activate this option by going to Settings, then My device, Lock screen, Lock screen widgets, and selecting Edit personal information.
If you don’t use a secure lock screen, just tap and hold the lock screen message line and drag it down from the lock screen. You will then be able to change the text.
Fast access with Quick Settings
Quick Settings is a feature that lets you adjust many settings of your Android phone from a single place. You can get access to quick settings from the notifications bar by swiping down with two-finger from the top of the screen.
Use WiFi timer to save battery and mobile data
If you’re not using a Wifi connection all day, you can use wifi timer to specify when you want your Wifi connection to start and stop automatically. This saves you some battery life and also, saves you from using your mobile data plan as it will automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network during these hours.
You can find the Wi-Fi Timer by going to Settings -> Wi-Fi, then tap on the menu soft key and select ‘Advanced. Tap on ‘WiFi Timer’ to schedule the times.
Add WatchOn app to notification panel
WatchON is an app that lets you use your Galaxy S4 as a TV remote control for a TV synced to the device. You can add the function to the notification panel for quick access. To do this, open the app and tap on the menu soft key, then tap Settings. Scroll down to the Notifications Section and check ‘Show remote control on notification panel’.
Enable Multiple Window Mode
The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with Multi Window mode that allow users to run two apps on screen at the same time. This means you can watch Youtube videos and browse the web simultaneously, or check email while watching videos.
To do so, simply hold down the back button and and the multi-window menu will appear on the left side of the screen. Slide it out and select which apps you want to run simultaneously.
Air View
The Samsung Galaxy S4 includes Air View , a key feature of Samsung Galaxy Note II. It lets you interact with your phone without actually touching it. Once Air View is turned on, you can hover your finger over a spot on the screen to see more information.
To turn this feature on, go to Settings -> My Device Tab -> Air View, and turn it ON. Next, tap on Air view to see the settings and fine tune what you want it to do.
Get Custom-tailored Audio with Adapt Sound
Adapt Sound is a unique feature of the S4, which will automatically adjust the volume of your device. With this feature you can hear everything with the right balance and perfect volume customized for you.
To access this feature, go to Settings -> My device tab -> Sound. You’ll find this mode in the very bottom of the Sound menu. Open it and then tap ‘Start’.
Enable Glove mode
If you are in a cold weather conditions and use gloves often, you can enable the glove mode to increase the sensitivity of your Galaxy S4. Once this is ON, you will be able to use the phone with gloves on, To set this up, go to Settings -> My device tab -> Display -> High touch sensitivity.
Take photos with Your Voice
You can now take pictures of yourself without holding the Galaxy S4. This is handy if the phone is attached to a tripod.
To turn this on, open the Camera app and tap Menu -> Settings, then tap the ‘settings cog’, scroll down to Voice control and turn it on.
Once this is setup, you can say ‘Cheese’, ‘Smile’, Capture’ or ‘Shoot’ to take a photo without touching the phone.
Control the Galaxy S4 with Your Eyes
The Samsung Galaxy S4 includes several features that allow users to control the device with their eyes. Once turned on, users can scroll with their eyes or with a tilt, keep the display on when they are looking at it and automatically pause videos. These features don’t work in all apps, but they are handy for many of the standard Samsung apps.
To turn this feature on, open the ‘Settings’ menu and select ‘My Device tab’ at the top of the screen. Tap the ‘Smart Screen’ tab then check ‘Smart Stay’, ‘Smart Pause’, and turn on ‘Smart scroll’ and then tap on the text to choose more options.
Smart stay will keep the screen on when you are looking at it while Smart pause will automatically pause videos when you look away, but it doesn’t support every video player. The Smart scroll feature lets users tilt the device or their head to scroll in the browser and a few other apps.
